"For me it "used to be" the best tasting & thick chocolate protein shake I had ever come across. Other brands I tried were too thin (watery) and/or lacked any chocolate taste. I always had to add some chocolate drink mix to make them taste OK. And crush ice with it to make it thicker.
Since this version is mainly soy protein & little vitamins, it's perfect for anyone who can't swallow vitamin & herbal supplements, where you can mix capsule powder (and ground up tablets) with the shake in a blender.
VitaCost product info states to use 1 scoop (scoop included in can) of powder for 10 oz. of your choice of liquid. 16 servings per can. That (was) correct & provided a thick, great tasting chocolate shake.
But now, with the latest can I just purchased (January 2008) GeniSoy no longer includes that large plastic scoop. Instead they include a tablespoon measurer & ask you to measure out 3 "rounded" tablespoons.
What each person might think is a rounded tablespoon is whole other matter!
I scooped out what I thought (in my mind) would be "rounded" tablespoons. Oh man, was I wrong. The shake was too thin & lacked taste.
I then set out to find out a correct measuring amount that would equal 16 servings. Long story short, you get (16) sixteen 1/3 cup measurements. Why don't they just state that on the can & forget the silly small tablespoon measurer ??!!
According to legend (upon research): A rounded tablespoon means there is as much of the product you are measuring above the top edge of the spoon as there is in the "bowl" of the spoon.
And most importantly now --
It's no longer a thick shake (I use 2% milk instead of skim). I use a blender to mix the shake & vitamin/herbal supplements together. Before it was so thick I had to use 3/4 cup milk + 1/2 cup water (the 10 oz. recommended) because it was just too thick to shallow.
Now, using 1/3 cup protein powder with 10 oz. of 2% milk (no dilution), it's thin & watery. No thickness at all. I even tried using 8 oz. of milk. No thickness.
The "Supplement Facts" (Nutrition Facts) ingredients listed here at VitaCost (as of January 2008) differ from the new, current label on the can, as well as the other ingredients. So, GeniSoy has indeed changed the product.
So, why is there no thickness at all anymore ?? GeniSoy has now omitted two thickening ingredients from the ingredient list… guar gum & cellulose gum !!
The price increased almost two dollars… they changed the 1 scoop measurer to this ridiculous 3 rounded tablespoon measurement… and changed the ingredients so now you don't get any kind of thick shake. Completely watery.
I guess it's onto my quest of finding a soy protein shake that's actually a shake (some thickness to it). Highly disappointed in what GeniSoy has done to this once fantastic product. This product is no longer a protein "shake". It's a protein "drink"."
